Mecklenburg County offers internship opportunities in several departments. Internships are a great way to get valuable, hands-on knowledge in a career field of interest. As an intern for Mecklenburg County, you’ll get exposure to the real world, make important connections through our vast network of professionals, and gain a competitive edge that makes you standout. What is Meckpathways?

MeckPathways is a partnership between Mecklenburg County Government and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. The program provides students an opportunity to gain professional work experience that connects their classroom experiences and potential career choices. The goal of the program is to provide a variety of opportunities for students to learn about public service professions.

Other Information

  • Program Dates: June 10-August 2nd

  • Potential Work Week: 20-40 hours per week

  • Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

  • Application process opens 2/1/24

  • Application process closes 2/29/24 (No Exceptions)

Applicant Requirement

​

  • Applicant must be a CMS high school junior or senior

  • Minimum Age: 16 years old by May 3, 2024

  • Must have a Social Security Number

  • No experience is required

​

Meckpathways Application Process (Now Open)

​

  • Complete Google Form Application (Use Personal Email)

  • Write an essay using the prompt, "I want to work for Mecklenburg County because..."

  • Ask a Teacher, Coach, or Administrator to send a letter of recommendation.

  • Essays and Letters of recommendation should be sent to Mr. Fotos. strat.fotos@mecklenburgcountync.gov

  • Watch Recorded Video (Must use CMS credentials to watch)

  • Essay should be 1-2 pages with your name in top right corner.

  • State why you are interested in the program and how you would make a good candidate.

  • Triple Check Spelling and Grammar

  • Do not wait until the last minute to complete the process
