BIG SOUTH EDUCATION DAY 2022 (Program Overview)

Overview

The 2022 US Army ROTC Big South High School Education Day (BSHSED) will take place on Wednesday, March 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The BOplex - home of Bojangles Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, NC. We are excited to share this opportunity with Charlotte-area and surrounding NC high schools, as well as those from neighboring states. This event is geared towards high school  juniors and seniors.

US Army ROTC BSHSED provides students the opportunity to learn more about the importance of furthering their education and to explore and discover the exciting programs and experiences Big South colleges and universities have to offer. The schedule for our opening program is as follows:

  • Welcome

  • Sponsor remarks

  • Guest speaker

  • Closing remarks

  • Instructions for navigating the educational/vendor fair.

 

The rest of the time will be for students to navigate the various college and educational booths at their own pace. We strongly encourage your students to visit each booth represented at the fair and experience the basketball game before leaving.

A field trip has been approved to attend the Big South High School Day at that Charlotte Convention Center on Wednesday, March 2nd from 10:00 AM – 1:45 PM.

Purpose: Students will have the opportunity to learn more about the importance of furthering their education and to explore and discover the exciting programs and experiences Big South colleges and universities have to offer. Students will be able to explore a college fair with Big South institutions and other vendors.

FIELD TRIP ELIGIBILITY & COSTS

Students should meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for the field trip: 

  • Must be a high school junior or senior 

  • Must have an interest in learning more about historically black colleges & universities; specifically those member schools of the Big South

  • Hold a minimum unweighted 2.0 GPA

  • Must have no disciplinary infractions for the 2021-2022 academic year

  • Good attendance (No attendance concerns)

  • Receive Teacher Approval to attend the field trip

  • Be one of the first 40 qualified students to submit the online application, field trip permission form, and teacher approval form 

Program Costs

  • Transportation costs will be covered by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools

  • Students will be responsible for the cost of their lunch during the event.  It is recommended that students bring at least $10.00 for lunch. There will be vendors selling food at the event.

Step 2: Complete the Online Application

Step 3: Submit field trip Permission Forms (Teacher & Parent) to Mr. Webb in Student Services. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 2:45p.m.

Accepted Students will be notified via e-mail and Remind by Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
