BIG SOUTH EDUCATION DAY 2022 (Program Overview)

Overview

The Hercules Tires Big South Basketball Championships return to Charlotte, N.C., March 1-5, 2023. With it comes return of the US Army ROTC Big South High School Education Day, which provides students the opportunity to learn about the importance of furthering their education and to explore and discover the exciting programs and experiences Big South conference institutions have to offer. Students will hear from speakers and sponsors during an opening program, followed by a college fair with Big South member institutions, partners, and other educational vendors.

 

The 2023 US Army ROTC Big South High School Education Day (BSHSED) will be held on Thursday, March 2, at the BOplex - Home of Bojangles Coliseum & Ovens Auditorium from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students in attendance will include high school students (primarily juniors and seniors) from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as well as schools from surrounding and neighboring districts, plus interested transfer students from community colleges. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a free Big South basketball game starting at 11:30 a.m. at Bojangles Coliseum.

A field trip has been approved to attend the Big South High School Day at that Charlotte Convention Center on Thursday, March 2nd from 10:00 AM – 1:45 PM.

Purpose: Students will have the opportunity to learn more about the importance of furthering their education and to explore and discover the exciting programs and experiences Big South colleges and universities have to offer. Students will be able to explore a college fair with Big South institutions and other vendors.

FIELD TRIP ELIGIBILITY & COSTS

Students should meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for the field trip: 

  • Must be a high school junior or senior 

  • Must have an interest in learning more about historically black colleges & universities; specifically those member schools of the Big South

  • Hold a minimum unweighted 2.0 GPA

  • Must have no disciplinary infractions for the 2022-2023 academic year

  • Good attendance (No attendance concerns)

  • Receive Teacher Approval to attend the field trip

  • Be one of the first 40 qualified students to submit the online application, field trip permission form, and teacher approval form 

Program Costs

  • Transportation costs will be covered by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools

  • Students will be responsible for the cost of their lunch during the event.  It is recommended that students bring at least $10.00 for lunch. There will be vendors selling food at the event.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Application Deadline:  Thursday, February 16th, 2023

Step 2: Complete the Online Application

Step 3: Submit field trip Permission Forms (Teacher & Parent) to Mr. Webb in Student Services. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 2:45p.m.

Accepted Students will be notified via e-mail by Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
